Why you should clean your bike regularly

Cleaning a bike is not mainly for its appearance. Of course, a clean bike also looks better, but the maintenance and preservation aspects of a clean bike should clearly be put first. Here are the most important reasons for cleaning:

• Dirt and rust can cause cables to get stuck in the housing or have difficulty working. Of course, this mainly applies to gears and brakes, and therefore to basic parts of the bike.
• A dirty bicycle chain causes it to gradually wear out. In other words: a shortened lifespan.
• A dirty bicycle frame means that serious damage (such as cracks in the frame) cannot be detected.
• General wear of individual parts can be prevented or slowed down by regular lubrication/lubrication.

Preparation

First, you need to prepare some tools: rags, car wash sponges, special neutral detergents, water guns and buckets.

First, use a marble to remove dust from the surface, especially those particles left over from long-term use. If you wipe it directly with a rag, it may damage the paint and affect the appearance. Then, rinse it with a low-pressure water gun first, and be careful to avoid important electrical parts such as motors, batteries and circuits to prevent vehicle failures. Be careful not to use too much water pressure to prevent water from entering the battery compartment or the inside of the motor.

Use neutral detergent

Next, drop neutral detergent into a bucket filled with clean water, stir it to make bubbles, wet it with a rag or sponge, and wipe the entire vehicle, especially the lower part of the electric bicycle. For dirt that is more difficult to clean, you can soften it before removing it. You can use a brush or toothbrush to remove dirt in the gaps. When cleaning the electric bicycle seat, be careful to avoid using corrosive detergents to avoid damaging the seat material.

Rinse with clean water

After the foam is applied, rinse the foam left on the bicycle with clean water. When rinsing, the water column of the water gun should be at a certain angle to the body of the vehicle so that the sewage can flow down. It is not recommended to use a high-pressure cleaner for rinsing. To prevent excessive pressure from being applied to the wheel, water will enter the wheel's sealed bearing and cause rust damage. After rinsing, wipe the car dry with a dry rag prepared in advance. Before using the dry rag, make sure that the paint surface is clean and free of debris, otherwise it will cause scratches on the paint.

Drying and maintenance

• Use a dry towel to wipe the moisture on the surface of the car body, especially in the gaps and dead corners, to avoid moisture residue and rust.
• Check whether the parts of the car body are loose or damaged, and repair or replace them in time if necessary.
• After cleaning, you can apply a layer of car wax on the surface of the car body to protect the paint and increase the gloss.
• Cleaning and maintenance should be closely combined. It is best to do maintenance after cleaning, especially for the front axle, rear axle, middle axle, flywheel, front fork, shock absorber rotation fulcrum and other key parts of the electric vehicle. This will make the electric vehicle ride extra smooth.

Remove rust from the bicycle:

It is best not to let it develop that far. But if your bicycle is indeed rusty, you should take countermeasures. Rust not only looks unsightly, it can also become a safety risk in the long run. Assuming that the rust has only appeared on the surface so far and has not yet completely eroded the frame, you can take the following steps to remove it.
The rust film on the handlebars, etc. should first be sprayed with a spray oil that has the effect of dissolving rust. After an exposure time of about 24 hours, you can try to simply remove the rust with a cloth. To prevent rust from returning, special polishes or spray wax can be used. These agents prevent water from easily entering the pores of the paint.
For stubborn rust, you need to apply a generous amount of rust-proofing converter to the area that needs to be treated. Then, it is recommended to apply an anti-rust primer to prevent further rust. This requires two coats applied at an interval of 10 minutes and finally smoothed with sandpaper. Only then will new paint be applied to the treated area or the entire frame.
