How to store electric bike batteries in winter

The battery provides energy for the electric bike system and isthe most expensive part of the electric bike. With a little care, you can optimize the battery life and performance.
Charging the bike is simple and convenient. First, always follow the manufacturer's charging recommendations. Here are some general guidelines:
  • Some batteries are removable, and the battery can be charged while installed on the bike or removed and charged indoors.
  • Your electric bike comes with a battery charger.Always use the manufacturer's charger to ensure compatibility (plug, charging rate and restrictions). Batteries with battery management systems can only use their own charger.
  • Typically, you plug the charging unit into the charging socket on the electric bike battery (many charging sockets have a cover that you need to remove first), and then plug the charging unit into a wall outlet.

How long does it take to charge?

This depends on factors such as battery capacity and charger current. Skivogr equips many electric bikes with a 54.6V/4A charger. This improves charging efficiency greatly.

What is the best way to charge an electric bike?

Here are some tips:
  • Avoid charging in extreme temperatures, including heat (direct sunlight) and extreme cold. Charge in a dry, cool area whenever possible.
  • Lithium batteries do not need to be fully discharged before charging. We do not recommend that you frequently drain the battery completely before charging it.
  • Don't leave your e-bike plugged in. It's always a good idea to unplug the charger from a fully charged battery when the charger indicator turns from red to green.

How many kilometers can you travel on a single battery charge?

This depends largely on the amount of pedal assist you use, the battery capacity, the terrain, the weather, the wattage used by the motor, and the combined weight of the bike, rider, and cargo.

What is the best way to store your e-bike and battery?

To extend the life of your battery, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for battery storage and transportation. In addition, consider the following guidelines:

  • For long-term storage, such as in cold months, try to keep the battery at 30%-70% charge. If the battery is stored at 0% for a long period of time (weeks or months), it will shorten the battery life.
  • If you don't use your e-bike in the winter, remove the battery and store it in a dry place at room temperature indoors. Do not leave the battery in a low temperature environment below 10 degrees Celsius for a long time.

How long is the life of an e-bike battery?

Typically, a battery can be charged 500-1,000 times before it starts to lose capacity. (A full charge cycle is a complete discharge/charge of the battery, so a battery can be partially discharged and charged many times before completing a "full charge cycle").
